Talking Heart-to-Heart
the leader's path to greater well-being, resilience,
innovation, and high performance
This is not primarily a matter of skills building for leaders and their teams. It is a matter of daily practice in the midst of the stress and complexity of day-to-day work. I have never met a leader who does not have the skills to have greater, immediate, meaningful impact....right now.
"You don't do the work. You create the conversation and that does all the work."--David Whyte
Low enthusiasm, disengagement, burnout..
and results that fall short Even before the pandemic, work environments were dominated by constant change and pressure. The common remedy
It is very common for leaders to think such a challenge requires skills building for themselves and then spending a lot of resources to set up programs and skills trainings for their managers and staff—activities in addition to and often separate from day-to-day work. There is another way The most powerful factor in creating work culture is the behavior of leaders in the midst of day-to-day work. Leaders who talk heart-to-heart with the individuals and teams they supervise achieve the highest levels of psychological safety, motivation, and performance. |
A Client's Experience "As a physician with many years of experience I was unprepared for an executive role in a multi-billion dollar organization. Over a few months Neil helped me learn techniques which probably saved me in that job. I recommend his techniques for others that seek the skills to work in high stress situations outside their comfort zone." For more client experience see About page... |
I work with experienced, successful leaders and have never met one who does not have sufficient skills to have greater, immediate meaningful impact...and I do mean right now. There is not a ceiling to what can be achieved.
The problem leaders face is not one of skills building but of accessing their own highest levels of heart and wisdom to respond most effectively to the myriad of complex and stressful day-to-day situations that occur in all workplaces.
This is a matter of ongoing, deliberate personal development that occurs through daily practice which can then be spread into the organizational culture. (See table of Typologies of Development below.)
Based on over 30 years of review of research and application
Over 30 years of review of research and application in thousands of leadership problems, I have developed such a practice and have presented the principles and methods to more than 5000 participants at the last seven National Forums of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
